Saint Lucian athletes are once again in the spotlight for their exceptional performances, and this time, we celebrate the remarkable legacy of record-breaking heptathlon athlete Makeba Alcide.

Makeba Alcide, who was named Saint Lucia’s Senior Sportswoman of the Year in 2013, stands among eight distinguished former Razorback student-athletes chosen for induction into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor’s 2025 class.

The induction ceremony will take place on September 26, just before Arkansas’s historic first-ever football matchup against Notre Dame at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Inductees are selected through a vote by former Razorback letterwinners in conjunction with the A Club, ensuring that only the most deserving athletes receive this honor.

“Every year, it is a privilege to induct our Razorback greats into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor, and this year is no exception,” stated Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek.

“Our 2025 class showcases individuals whose achievements, character, and legacy have indelibly shaped Razorback Athletics. We look forward to an extraordinary weekend of honoring them in September,” he said.

Alcide represented the Razorback women’s track and field team from 2009 to 2013, where she excelled in both the pentathlon and heptathlon. She set a collegiate record in the pentathlon with a score of 4,569 points, winning the 2013 SEC Indoor title, and secured a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships. This score remains No. 9 on the all-time collegiate list over a decade later.

In the heptathlon, Alcide achieved a career-best score of 6,050 points, earning a silver medal at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships and qualifying for the World Championships in Moscow, Russia. She also claimed the 2013 SEC heptathlon title with a personal best of 5,968 points, positioning her No. 2 on the University of Arkansas’s all-time list for both the pentathlon and heptathlon.

Her impressive performances have established national records for Saint Lucia, including the 100m hurdles record with a time of 13.52 seconds. Alcide held the UA indoor high jump record at 6-2.25 (1.89m) and the outdoor record at 6-2 (1.88m) for 11 years, still ranking No. 2 in both events on the school’s all-time list.

Throughout her collegiate career, Alcide won the 2011 SEC heptathlon title with a personal best of 5,646 points.

In 2012, she not only claimed the SEC Indoor pentathlon title with a score of 4,126 points on Kentucky’s oversized track but also achieved notable placements in other competitions. This included a third-place finish in the heptathlon at the Drake Relays, fifth at the SEC Championships, and 13th at the NCAA Championships. She concluded that season by winning a bronze medal for Saint Lucia at the NACAC U23 Championships.

Alcide has continued to compete on an international stage, finishing eighth in the pentathlon at the 2016 World Indoor Championships and ninth in the heptathlon at the 2015 Pan Am Cup.

Her legacy expands beyond her competitive achievements. Currently, Alcide serves as the team leader for Saint Lucia’s national athletics squad, which will compete in the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13–21.
