The Under 12s Into High Gear

The seventh round of the SLFA Inc. Boys Under 12, District League Football competition sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports, National Lotteries Authority and ACADO concluded over the weekend at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere Dennery.

In the first of a double header on Saturday 30th Auguste, a fiercely contested and high-scoring match, Gros Islet emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle against a resilient Desruisseaux team 4 – 3.

A thrilling first half ended level after a dramatic comeback. Gros Islet dominated play, using width effectively and hitting the post three times, but were stunned by two Desruisseaux counter attacks. Dervey Tobiere opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Tyrese James made it 2-0 in the 26th.

Gros Islet mounted a devastating response, scoring two goals in two minutes. Jason Williams started the comeback in the 27th minute, and Nathan Christophe equalized with a thunderous strike in the 29th. The half ended with the teams deadlocked at 2-2.

Picking up where they left off, Gros Islet took their first lead of the game shortly after the restart with Kayden Prospere finding the net in the 42nd minute.

Desruisseaux, demonstrating their never-say-die attitude, quickly equalized in the 53rd minute through their striker, Dervey Tobiere, who had been a constant threat.

However, Gros Islet immediately reclaimed the lead. Just a minute later, in the 54th minute, Jason Williams transitioned from provider to scorer, netting the winner to make it 4 – 3.

Despite intense pressure from both sides, no further goals were scored.

Meanwhile, Vieux Fort South secured a hard-fought 2 – 1 victory over a struggling Central Castries side in the second game of the day.

Vieux Fort South commenced the match with high energy and vigor, immediately taking control of the game.

The pressure was rewarded in the 16th minute when Vieux Fort South’s Benjamin Poyotte drew first blood, scoring against a hapless Central Castries defense.

Central Castries managed to muster a response, equalizing six minutes later in the 22nd minute through a goal from their playmaker, Ruben Harris.

However, Vieux Fort South swiftly reasserted their dominance, restoring their lead almost immediately. In the 24th minute, Jahmiel Griffith found the back of the net to make it 2 – 1 as the half ended.

Despite efforts from both teams to alter the scoreline, including a missed opportunity for Central Castries when their penalty kick was saved by the excellent Vieux Fort South goalkeeper, the 2 – 1 scoreline prevailed until the final whistle.
