The government is significantly increasing its funding for individuals pursuing a nursing career, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing livelihoods within the healthcare sector.

In the 2025/26 academic year, 140 nursing students at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) will receive Government-funded scholarships.

This initiative fulfills a key promise from the Budget 2025/26, which aims to expand access to tertiary education while fortifying Saint Lucia’s health workforce. Valued at over half a million dollars, this investment represents one of the most substantial contributions to nursing education in recent years.

It alleviates financial burdens on families and ensures that Saint Lucia can effectively train more nurses to meet national healthcare demands.

The scholarship program provides structured tuition support throughout the four-year nursing program:

Years 1 and 2: EC$2,500 per year
Year 3: EC$5,000
Final Year: EC$10,000 (full tuition coverage)

The Government of Saint Lucia acknowledges the financial challenges students face and the urgent need for qualified nurses. This program addresses both issues, empowering young people and directly strengthening the healthcare system.

Since 2021, the Government has invested over EC$9 million in bursaries and scholarships, benefiting more than 1,200 Saint Lucian students. The introduction of these 140 new nursing scholarships further cements this track record and exemplifies how education policy is being effectively utilized as a tool for national development.
