The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) proudly announces the successful completion of several critical infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing working conditions at fire stations across the island.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Thomas John highlighted the recent inspection of the Dennery Fire Station by an official delegation.
“On March 17, 2025, Permanent Secretary Dr Elizabeth Bailey, accompanied by Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr Ricky Quinlan, Chief Fire Officer Mr Ditney Downes, Divisional Officer Shane Williams, Acting Assistant Divisional Officer Chadric Faucher, and Accountant Mrs Alison Louisy, visited the Dennery Fire Station. The purpose of the visit was to assess ongoing refurbishment works, which included roof repairs, painting, and a complete renovation of the Control Room. Similar improvements were carried out at the Vieux Fort Fire Station, Fire Prevention South, and Micoud Fire Station,” stated Mr. John.
Additionally, the SLFS continues to address maintenance needs at other fire stations while preparing to introduce a brand-new facility to serve West Coast residents.
“Renovation efforts are ongoing at the Soufriere Fire Station, where the ladies’ barracks are being expanded. Meanwhile, the Government of Saint Lucia has recently acquired a property at Anse La Verdue in Anse La Raye, which will house the new West Coast Fire Station. Construction is progressing rapidly, and an official opening date will be announced soon,” Mr John added.

Beyond infrastructure enhancements, the SLFS is eagerly anticipating the passing out parade for Recruit Course 1 of 2024. The training cohort consists of fifty-two recruits undergoing rigorous preparation at the Saint Lucia Fire Service Training School in Vieux Fort. Their graduation ceremony is scheduled for April 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Canaries Play Field. The addition of these new fire officers will bolster staffing levels at fire stations island-wide, further strengthening the SLFS’s emergency response capabilities.
