The Government of Saint Lucia says it is taking decisive action to enhance water security and improve access to potable water for homes, businesses, and communities across the island.
An investment of $61.56 million will finance the Ninth Water Project, which will upgrade the infrastructure at the John Compton Dam.
On March 21, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed the approval of a loan request from the Department of Economic Development and the Youth Economy, aimed at replacing the raw water pipeline at the John Compton Dam.
Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Melissa Paul, stated: “Cabinet reviewed a memorandum dated February 23, 2025, and granted approval for a loan application not exceeding $22,822,181 from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to fund the John Compton Dam Raw Water Pipeline Replacement Project.”
The Ninth Water Project follows the successful execution of the John Compton Dam Rehabilitation Project, which was conducted in conjunction with the Dennery-North Water Supply Project.
This initiative specifically addressed the significant sedimentation issues at the dam, caused by severe weather events, which had diminished the dam’s storage capacity.
