With an emphasis on improving its Community Tourism programmes, the government is preparing to launch several significant projects in communities across the island.
Among the most notable is the Anse Ferre Lookout Point, which is strategically placed in Castries South along the Julian Alfred Highway, also known as the Millennium Highway.
The Anse Ferre Lookout Point in Ciceron is scheduled to be completed within the next nine months, according to ministry officials. This project will improve the village by building a new visitor center, a marine conservation park, and a restaurant. It is part of the Ministry of Tourism’s mission to promote green tourism and is intended to have one of the most contemporary designs and functionalities.
This site, which includes a wonderful beach, provides some of the most stunning views on the island. The anticipated traffic from this project is expected to increase revenue for the constituency, complementing the overall purpose of Community Tourism.
Donaline Vitae, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, stressed at the recent Sod Turning Ceremony that this project symbolizes the start of a transformative path toward the country’s sustainable future.
“This is more than a construction project; it is an opportunity for the community to elevate its space. This will be our premier endeavour in ‘green tourism’—a project that will stand out with its unique vernacular and charm,” Vitae stated.
During a site visit, Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire examined the status of the Anse Ferre Lookout, which is part of the island’s planned tourism development projects. This project seeks to broaden the range of offerings while also strengthening ties with the local community.
According to reports, this initiative is the Ministry’s first inclusive green project. It is being implemented utilizing environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies to reduce the island’s ecological footprint.
The Castries South MP indicated that the Anse Ferre Lookout project will create an environment that will provide a unique, immersive, and unforgettable experience for both inhabitants and visitors, with a cashew nut-inspired design arrangement.
Dr. Hilaire continued, “We have a clear direction, focus on how to align the ministry’s activities with our goals. Our approach is grounded in two fundamental principles: empowering Saint Lucians to actively participate in the tourism industry and enabling more of them to own it.”
Dr. Hilaire further stated that this initiative will encourage visitors to engage with local communities and experience authentic offerings.
“Environmentally friendly practices will guide every facet of this project,” he stated, emphasizing the usage of solar energy and greywater collection.
“We aim to create a true model of green practices that integrates the community with tourism, fostering livelihoods for residents and maximizing the benefits for the average Saint Lucian.”
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre reiterated this vow, saying, “The returns from the tourism industry must benefit the people of Saint Lucia.”
He stated that, while the country has great potential, what it really needs is opportunity, motivation, and honesty.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to promoting the welfare and well-being of all Saint Lucians.
