On Wednesday evening, seven stunning young women walked the stage at the Sandals Jefferson Bill Clinton Ballroom to accept their sponsorship packages, creating tangible excitement in the audience.

Tamara Gibson, Chairperson of the Carnival Planning Management Committee (CPMC), spoke passionately about the importance of corporate sponsorship for carnival contestants. She described the occasion as a tremendous indication of the corporate community’s support for Lucian Carnival, particularly the queen pageant contestants.

“The draping of a sash with your brand reflects a significant investment in these bold, talented, and socially aware young women,” Gibson said.

“You are fueling their dreams and amplifying voices that tackle critical issues within our society,” she added.

Gibson emphasized two key characteristics that distinguish the Lucian Carnival: cultural preservation and sustainability.

With 71 years of tradition, she boldly declared, “The National Queen Pageant stands as one of the most anticipated events on the Lucian Carnival calendar.”

“It encapsulates the best of Lucian culture and artistry in the most innovative, thought-provoking, and whimsical ways. It is a harmonius blend of music, Ole-Mas, pageantry, and grand costumes, all infused with beauty, elegance, and grace. This is Lucian culture at its peak,” she stated.

Sharleen Lagon, a local designer, got recognition for her outstanding contributions over the years in making numerous of the pageant’s outfits.

Gibson emphasized the invaluable life skills imparted to delegates during expert-led training sessions and workshops. “This Pageant focuses on empowerment—each one teaches, helps, and builds the others,” she declared.

Gibson stated that the contestants would participate in ecologically friendly projects such as tree planting and school-based activities during Reading Month. “It’s beyond mere beauty; it’s about making a difference and cultivating a greener, better world.”

Trevor King, Chairperson of the National Carnival Queen Pageant Sub-Committee, emphasized the organizers’ obligation to develop confident and productive citizens.
“Every year, we select a remarkable group of delegates, each uniquely beautiful in their own way,” he said.

He likened the contestants or “delegates” to cultural ambassadors, emphasizing, “We must shape these women into confident, articulate, and socially-conscious individuals ready to engage with any stage, conversation, and challenge. Their journey embodies self-discovery, discipline, and transformation, and we are eager to support and celebrate their growth.”

In alignment with evolving trends in showbiz, King affirmed, “This year, we have reimagined several elements to infuse new energy, creativity, and surprises onto the stage. Expect bolder artistic expression and a renewed focus on culture and storytelling.”

Donaline Vitae, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, reinforced the importance of commemorating 71 years of the National Carnival Queen Pageant, praising those who have diligently contributed to its evolution.

“The pageant is a cornerstone of Saint Lucia’s carnival identity, playing an essential role in our carnival celebrations. It stands as one of the most glamorous of all national carnival events,” she stated emphatically.

Vitae highlighted that at the core of the pageant lies an exhilarating showcase of “our culture and artistic expression. The costume and talent segments vividly reflect our rich culture and creativity. Each delegate, through their performance, offers a glimpse into our diversity, pride, and unique beauty that defines us as Saint Lucians.”
