FOUR teams will compete in the semi-finals of the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc. Senior Women’s football competition at the Desruisseaux Playing Field today.
The top four teams are: Canaries with 16 points, Vieux Fort South with 15 points, Central Castries with 11 points, and Desruisseaux with 9 points.
The semi-final matchups are as follows: Canaries vs. Desruisseaux, and Vieux Fort South vs. Central Castries.
The grand finals will take place on Saturday, January 25th, at a venue to be determined.
In addition, the SLFA Inc. has initiated several trials to identify and select talented girls under 13 years old who are actively playing football in various communities across the country. This vital exercise will determine the engagement levels of Under-13 girls within each league and will guide the development of strategies to effectively launch the 2025 Women’s Football Programme.
Importantly, SLFA has successfully developed the concept for an Under-13 Girls Championship, with five teams committed to participating in the upcoming Under-13 Girls District Championship.
Where certain districts lack the required number of players to form a squad, SLFA will facilitate alliances with nearby leagues to ensure sufficient participation.
Based on the trials’ outcomes, the following teams have been established:
– Choiseul Football League
– Dennery Football League (can join with Mabouya Valley FL to boost numbers)
– Desruisseaux Football League
– Canaries Football League (can join with Anse La Raye FL to increase numbers)
– Vieux Fort (Vieux Fort North FL & Vieux Fort South FL will join forces to bolster participation)
Eighteen players have been selected from the Choiseul Football League after the trials. Consequently, the Choiseul FL will conduct a ‘semi-playoff’ match to form two groups and select the best team for the tournament.
The junior female championship starts on February 1, at the La Fargue, Choiseul Playing Field, with each team permitted to register a maximum of 30 players.
Moreover, the Five-Teams championships will kick off on February 8, at the La Fargue, Choiseul Playing Field, starting at 10:00 am, and funding for transportation costs will be provided for the teams. Each league is allowed one 14-seater bus.
The championship will operate in a Seven-A-Side format. Each league must appoint a Head Coach to lead their team and ensure their presence at the scheduled matches.
SLFA will also make provisions for compensating these coaches for their dedication to working with and accompanying the teams during matches. Payment will primarily be for attendance at official matches.
