The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) is spearheading an initiative to rejuvenate Saint Lucia’s education sector through the Programme for Educational Alignment and Transformation (PEAT).
This project aims to overhaul the education sector by implementing strategic upgrades and constructing new facilities. Over four days, a seven-member CDB team visited multiple locations to evaluate the project’s background, scope, components, and costs.
The team, comprising experts from various fields, reviewed proposed sites for construction and refurbishment and engaged with stakeholders.
The Chief Planning Officer within the Ministry of Education, Shenelle Leonce, underscored the importance of CDB’s support in achieving a transformational agenda. She highlighted the need for industrial-standard and compliant facilities at the visited TVET institutes.
“We visited three TVET institutes to assess the current state and determine what is needed to provide industrial-standard, compliant facilities,” said Leonce.
The department is committed to reforming the island’s education system to enable students to reach their full potential and contribute to national, regional, and international development.
“CDB is making a significant contribution and looks forward to working closely with the Ministry of Education to transform education, making it contextually grounded, locally adaptable, and globally competitive,” Leonce added.
The mission concluded with a debriefing session involving senior officials from the Ministry of Education, finalizing the project’s components and providing essential feedback for implementation.
Through comprehensive assessment and consultation, the Programme for Education Realignment and Transformation is expected to significantly advance Saint Lucia’s educational landscape.
