Saint Lucia missed out on a chance to advance to the CFU U-14 semifinals after an unfortunate defeat to Bermuda.

Despite a strong performance against Sint Martin, the team couldn’t secure the necessary victories to progress further in the tournament.

Nonetheless, the players showed promise and determination throughout the competition.

Saint Lucia countered their opening match defeat against Bonnaire (2-1), with a win against Sint Martin last Saturday, in Tier II Group C match of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Boys’ Under-14 Challenge Series at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad & Tobago.

However, after defeating Sint Maarten 4-0, they then succumbed to defeat against Bermuda on Monday.

Jaylan Hyppolite scored in the 10’ to put Saint Lucia ahead, and then doubled the score from the spot in the 17’ to give the young Piton Boyz the advantage.

Nasri Alexander netted in the 45’ with a powerful shot past the custodian, and then three minutes later provided an assist for Leon Vidal to slot in an easy finish, for a 4-0 advantage.

On Monday, Team Saint Lucia missed out on an opportunity to advance to Friday’s semifinals after falling to Bermuda 1-0 in the dying stages of the match.

With Monroe out through an injury in the latter session, Saint Lucia lost momentum, though midfielder Shaquille Martelly stepped up to try and avert the situation. He was later named Player of the Match.

Bonaire drew level via Rayvion Simon and then Margall Statie netted the winner in the 32’.

Though Saint Lucia created some half chances in the second half, they failed to hit the target.

Saint Lucia’s final fixture in Tier II Group C was scheduled for Tuesday against Grenada, a game that could decide second place behind unbeaten Bermuda.
