Prime Minister Philip J Pierre has highlighted the significant progress Saint Lucia has made in the past three years.
He emphasized the substantial growth in the economy and the job market during a recent forum announcing bilateral cooperation projects between Saint Lucia and Taiwan.
According to Prime Minister Pierre, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has projected a remarkable 7% growth in the economy and a substantial decrease in unemployment rates. The country is on track to reduce its current 10% unemployment figure to single digits, with the construction industry expected to play a significant role in providing more job opportunities.
“This is a country that we are proud to be running and to be managing,” PM Pierre declared.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed the government’s commitment to implementing income-generating development projects focused on the welfare of the people of Saint Lucia. He also emphasized the administration’s dedication to fostering a spirit of cooperation and love, ensuring that the entire country benefits from the government’s initiatives.
The prime minister cited public cooperation and remittances that government provides for school books and other academic materials. He said people look forward to the STEP programme as a source of employment, while also preserving the upkeep of roadsides and clearing of debris brought on by the recent heavy rainfall.
PM Pierre asserted that these income-generating development projects are happening because the government remains focused “on developing the country for the people of Saint Lucia.”
PM Pierre acknowledged the support from the Taiwanese Embassy and stressed the government’s continuous efforts for improvement. He revealed plans to introduce a comprehensive sports programme which has included the establishment of a Semi-Professional Football League and extending initiatives to support the local cricket league.
In addition, the Prime Minister celebrated the achievements of Saint Lucian athletes, expressing optimism for a very progressive year while also cautioning against the potential hazards of climate change and adverse weather conditions.
While basking in the glory of the feat accomplished by sprint sensation Julien Alfred, PM Pierre said alongside other reputable sportsmen and sportswomen that Saint Lucia has produced, there are several other talented young athletes.
He concluded by expressing his aspirations for Saint Lucia to continue reaching new heights.
“We look forward to Saint Lucia continuing to soar to higher and higher heights,” PM Pierre asserted.
