The 2024 Government of St. Lucia Annual Summer Employment Programme commenced in July 2024 targeting secondary students from Form 4 and 5, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) and University Students. The objective of the annual summer employment programme is to provide valuable work experience and skills development opportunities for secondary and tertiary students.
This year, due to the generous allocation of funds by the Prime Minister, Honourable Phillip J. Pierre, over 250 students were selected from across the island and have been temporarily assigned to the various government departments, thus gaining hands-on experience in the public sector and ensuring that young persons, irrespective of their place of residence, had an equal opportunity to participate and benefit from the programme.
Through the practical work experience and exposure to the various roles within government, students have had the opportunity to develop important personal and professional work skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving and time management. These skills are essential for their personal growth and future employability.
The Summer Employment Programme is held annually, and continues to expand indicating the commitment of the Government of St. Lucia to continuously support youth employment and development. This year’s Government of St. Lucia Summer Employment Programme culminates in August, 2024.
