As the new academic school year approaches, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs is urging parents and guardians across Saint Lucia to be vigilant and proactive in ensuring the health and safety of their children. With the ongoing challenges posed by health concerns, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of staying informed and prepared to navigate the school year successfully.
The Ministry has outlined several recommendations for parents to follow, including providing children with essential hygiene products such as hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes, ensuring they understand the importance of good hand hygiene, and maintaining open communication about health and safety.
Janelle Dupre, Health Educator within the Ministry, emphasizes the critical role that parents play in fostering a safe and healthy environment for their children.
“We encourage all parents to take the necessary steps to inquire about their child’s school reopening plans, safety measures, and any specific guidelines that need to be followed. Being well-prepared and informed is key to ensuring that our children can have a productive and safe school experience,” Dupre said.
Additionally, parents are advised to familiarize themselves with the signs and symptoms of Mpox and other infectious diseases, and to seek medical care promptly if any symptoms arise.
Dupre further added, “It’s essential that parents also focus on their child’s emotional well-being. The return to school can be a source of anxiety for some, and providing a supportive environment where children feel comfortable expressing their emotions is crucial. A smooth transition back to school can set the tone for a successful year ahead.”
