EVERY August 1st, Gros Islet Day is celebrated, and recently, the festivities have expanded to include the Gros Islet Carnival, featuring the Queen Show, carnival pageantry, and other activities.

On Sunday, six contestants participated in the Queen Show event organized by the planning committee. The event showcased artistic talent, evening wear, and costumes, adding to the glitz and glamour of the beauty contest.

Ultimately, Daniella Richelieu representing Ms. Colours Fashion was crowned the 2024 Gros Islet Carnival Queen. The other results were as follows: 1st runner-up Melanie Norley – Ms. Blue Waters, 2nd runner-up Tyreese Timitre – Ms. Michel’s Electrical, 3rd runner-up Aliyah Mitchel – Ms. Crossing Harte Foundation.

The other two contestants were Tracia Anthony – Ms. C&M Touring Services and Kayla Regis – Ms. K&M Garage.

The activities kick off this weekend with a J’ouvert jam at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday. Costume bands and revelers will parade the streets of Gros Islet on August 3rd and 4th as the activities unfold in the northern town.

In addition to the annual celebrations, the Gros Islet Reunion 2024 event began last Friday, featuring an official launch and a parade of flags through the Gros Islet Friday Night Street Fair. The event also included a night of history and storytelling, allowing the Gros Islet residents from the diaspora and residents to reminisce over the ‘good old days’, tragedies, and developments.

A spokesperson for the group stated, “We want our local people to come out and support us. We are giving to charities and those less fortunate amongst us, so the collective support of our home residents would be encouraging.”

The group emphasizes that the Reunion is about all Gros Islet residents, both at home and abroad.
