Dominica Wins W/Wards Super 50 Championship Title

Dominica has emerged as the 2024 Windward Islands Super 50 Championship title winners, surpassing defending champions Saint Lucia with a superior run rate.

Despite both teams tying at 4 points, Dominica’s exceptional performance in the final match secured them the title.

The team’s victory over Grenada on Friday (August, 9) set the stage for their championship triumph.

Summarised scores were as follows:

Dominica XI – 284 all out (49.2 overs)
Grenada XI – 217 / 9 (39.4 overs)
Dominica XI won by 67 runs.

Jerlani Robinson with an impressive century and Tyron Theophille valuable contribution helped Dominica win the championship title. Grenada’s Skipper Ryan John also shone with a century in the tournament.

The Dominicans innings featured Robinson hitting the second century of the tournament, with a polished 103 off 118 balls (9×4, 2×6); while Theophille * scored 59 off 58 (5×4, 3×6). Darron Nedd was Grenada’s top bowler with a haul of 5/41 (9.2 overs).

Skipper Ryan John scored the tournament’s third century – 100* off 94 balls (8×4,7×6); while four bowlers each claimed two wickets for Dominica, with Kharmal Hamilton returning best bowling figures of 2/31 (10.0).

In the final match, Dominica XI outperformed Saint Lucia with Gilon Tyson’s exceptional bowling, which led to Saint Lucia’s downfall.

Summarised scores were as follows:

Dominica XI – 169 all out (44.3 overs)
Saint Lucia XI 133 all out (22.3 overs)
Dominica XI won by 36 runs.

Tyson was the star player of the match, bagging 7/35 (8.3 overs) as the chief architect of Saint Lucia’s demise. The top batters on either side hit scores of 20+ and it was the Tyson’s bowling performance that had the greatest effect on the game.

At the post-match Awards Ceremony, held last Saturday (August 10) the outstanding performances of Ryan John, Gilon Tyson, Jervin Benjamin, and Vernilius Gabriel were recognized, with Gilon Tyson being named the Tournament MVP.
