Athletes’ Commission’s to host Coaching Education and Development Workshop

DISCUSSIONS WILL FOCUS ON CRITICAL ASPECTS OF SPORTS COACHING TO DRIVE THE ADVANCEMENT OF ATHLETE-CENTERED PROGRAMMES

The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Inc. (SLOC), in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Athletes’ Commission (SLAC), is excited to announce a pivotal Coaching Education and Development Workshop set to take place on Thursday, August 22, 2024. The workshop will be held at Olympic House in La Clery from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Themed “From Insight to Achievement: Boosting Athlete Performance Through Education,” the event is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of local coaches. It will focus on critical aspects of sports coaching to drive the advancement of athlete-centered programmes in Saint Lucia.

The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Greg Sun, a highly regarded figure in the field of coaching and performance psychology. Dr. Sun’s impressive career includes mentoring hundreds of collegiate student-athletes at the University of Idaho and Washington State University. His athletes have excelled in various Olympic sports and has mentored 17 Olympians, 17 NCAA individuals and four team sports qualifiers.

Dr. Sun’s expertise goes well beyond coaching; he is the first Winter Olympic athlete who represented Trinidad and Tobago in three Olympic Games as a 2-man bobsleigh driver. His academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a PhD in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology. His dissertation, titled “Destination Gold: An Exploratory Study of Olympic Champions and Their Use of Goals, Goal Attributes, and Goal Setting Strategies in Pursuit of Excellence,” underscores his deep understanding of elite performance. Furthermore, Dr. Sun has a rich background in teaching, covering a broad range of subjects including fitness, health and wellness, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, sports psychology, and student-athlete life skills development. Therefore, participants will benefit from Dr. Sun’s wealth of knowledge and practical experience, which will be instrumental in advancing the quality and effectiveness of sports programmes in Saint Lucia.
