HUNDREDS of music fans turned up at the Mindoo Phillip Park (MPP) on Tuesday for the grand opening of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival-where patrons were treated to a Caribbean fusion of dancehall, and soca hits, complemented with a dynamic rhythmic beat from the Saint Lucian All- Stars crew.

The local crew got the ‘jazz party’ underway before Romain Virgo took the stage to deliver a spellbinding performance.

Interlaced with his favourite ‘lovers rock’ style hits, the Jamaican crooner kept the lively crowd in the groove. And then, he took some time to serenade the ladies in attendance, with particular attention directed at the ‘Lady with the Red Dress’.

Then Virgo made his way down to the audience, where he personally greeted the fan, while other adoring fans squeezed in to get a selfie from this captivating moment.

As he winded down the set, Virgo let out one of his chart busters ‘One in a Million’ and had fans singing along in sweet refrain to a delightful performance.

Teejay, another Jamaican artiste, not yet widely known but making a name for himself in the dancehall genre was next on stage.

As the late-night session wore on into the wee hours, Teejay delivered a medley of tunes that stirred his supportive fans into frenzied dancing.

Nonetheless, it was Voice’s closing act that rocked the house, as the Trinidadian Soca artiste hit the right notes at the right time to get patrons into the party mood and ‘breakaway segment’ to herald the May Day holiday.

Aaron St Louis, better known as ‘Voice’, is recognized as a Soca artist and songwriter who became the youngest winner of Trinidad’s illustrious International Soca Monarch competition at the age of 24.

From the opening tune all the way to the end, Voice and his crew took his rhythmic regional vibration to another musical dimension. Conscious overtures like “bad mind you nah know yourself…”, got fans hooked into the act, as he followed up with other popular tunes, such as  ‘Far from Finished’,  ‘Year for Love’  ‘Cheers to Life’, ‘Out and Bad’ , and ‘By Any Means’ among other hits.
