The Mediator’s Forum will formally be launched on Sunday.
A non-profit company, the Mediator’s Forum was incorporated on the 19th of September last year, director Urban Dolar said.
Amongst its objectives, the Forum said in a release, is to be a neutral and independent body that will represent and promote mediation as an alternative to litigation thereby furthering law reform and access to justice.
The Forum aims to create a culture of ‘best practice’ by encouraging research, continuing education and quality standards in the field by issuing codes of good practice and ethics.
Also, the release noted, “to provide the profession of mediation and mediators with one unified body with which to make representations to government and other national interests.”
Further:
“- To act as a portal for access by potential users of and referrers to mediation and other dispute resolution options;
-To cooperate with government and other bona fide agencies in the promotion of alternative dispute resolution with the community
– To develop and implement a mediation related strategic educational outreach development plan for the Saint Lucian community.”
All persons desirous of becoming ordinary members may apply for membership and will become ordinary members providing that they have received training, the Forum said.
“Ordinarily such training would be at least 40 hours long in mediation that is acceptable to the Management Committee,” the release stated, adding that the Forum will be managed by a Management Committee consisiting of the following officers:
– President
– Vice President
– Treasurer
– Secretary
– Assistant Secretary
– Four Committee Members
The Forum currently has three directors namely Anne-Marie Christopher, Tedburt Theobalds and Urban Dolar.
