Eddie Hazell, president of the Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation, has been elected to sit on the World Aquatics Bureau.

Hazell will represent Zone II, along with Dylan Carter of Trinidad and Tobago.

At the next PanAm Aquatics Executive meeting on 23 January, Hazell will be officially appointed either as a Direct Executive Member or as a World At Large Member.

Hazell becomes the first Saint Lucian and the first administrator from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to hold a seat on the Bureau, which comprises of the President of World Athletics, Husain Al-Musallam, and 39 Bureau Members. Twenty-two Bureau Members are elected by the Congress as continental representatives.

Meanwhile, at the Claude Sufrin Meet, in Martinique, last weekend Saint Lucian swimmers captured a total of 27 medals.

Outstanding performances in particular came from Sapphire Parks of Sea Jays (4Gold medals), James Sylvester (Sea Jays, I gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and Zania Brathwaite (Sharks, 1 gold, 2 silver).

The officials say they await ratification of a new age group  in long-course best from Sapphire, and a range of new personal-best marks for the swimmers that represented the three respective clubs.
