Anse La Raye/Canaries Constituency to expect Major Infrastructural Changes

The constituency of Anse La Raye /Canaries is in for some major development works, as the government rings in the new year, which has been designated as the ‘Year of Infrastructure’.

Junior Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Anse La Raye / Canaries, Wayne Girard spoke about the works planned  for the constituency and also about other ongoing projects.

He cited one of the major works to be undertaken: The construction of a bridge and a jetty in the Anse La Raye community.

Girard is optimistic about the prospects in store for the year, noting that government has completed the construction of a bridge in Canaries. He said the same will be done in Anse La RayThe Anse La Raye / Canaries MP said it took some time to get to this point, because they had to satisfactorily relocate the affected people whose houses needed to be demolished in order to construct the bridge.  He added that the affected persons have been relocated safely and satisfactorily, and hopefully, the demolition process will commence this week.

He explained that works are currently ongoing at the Aux Tabor court in terms of its resurfacing and that lights have been installed there as well.

“We are also working on the jetty in Anse La Raye,” noted Girard. He said there was an issue with the Bed and Breakfast services in the community but it will be continued  and  be helped to take the right direction.

The construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant has been proposed for Anse La Raye said the minister.

Added Girard: “We are also working on the re-launching of the Anse La Raye Fish Friday, which we know is a very important  for the residents of Anse La Raye because of the revenue that it generates.’

He said work is also being undertaken for the completion of the National Skills and Development Centre (NSDC) to cater to the education of the young people in the community.

Girard stated that  the former regime stopped the work on the NSDC facility, “ but we have now confirmed that we are going to commence the work on it, so that the young people of Anse La Raye /Canaries, and Anse La Raye in particular will have a place to hone their talents and practice their skills .”

In the Canaries community, he said, work will be completed on the Restaurant & Market facility, and we are looking forward to launching that and making it a great success.

An outdoor gym with grounds fully surfaced will be installed in Jacmel, Roseau. And also, works on the Morne Sissou bridge is to be completed.

Feeder roads into some major farm lands in Jacmel is ongoing and includes completion of Phase I of the Delargo road. The second phase is the completion of the Delargo rehabilitation project.

Girard assured his constituents that all commitments made will be met.

Noting that the Community Tourism concept is a “very important initiative”, he said, infrastructural works on the jetties and other amenities are part of this hospitality project.

“All of these come under community tourism,” declared Girard. “We believe that we have the product and lots of sites that are available for us to develop.”
