Dominica is the Champion of the Winlott Inc U15 Super 50 2023.

Earlier this month, Dominica’s U-15 cricketers hoisted the WINLOTT Inc Windwards Island Cricket Board U-15 Super 50 championship trophy under unusual circumstances.

Heavy rain washed out the final against Grenada, leaving Dominica’s title decided by their dominant points tally throughout the tournament. The young Nature Boys swept the competition, amassing victories in all group matches to reach the final.

Their consistent bowling and clinical batting, spearheaded by MVP Earsinho Fontaine, ensured a top spot on the points table.

The final promised a fiery contest, with Grenada posting a respectable 84-3 before the heavens opened. With no further play possible, the trophy’s fate shifted to the points standings.

Here, Dominica’s flawless run shone through, crowning them champions by virtue of superior accumulated points. “It wasn’t the dramatic finish we wanted, but the boys played their hearts out throughout,” lauded Dominica captain Kenneth Valmond. “This title is a testament to their hard work and consistency.”

While the rain-affected finale cast a shade of disappointment, Dominica’s triumph was well-earned. Their unwavering performance throughout the tournament, with key contributions from players like Chance Marshall and Jayquan Lataille, solidified their claim to the championship.

The third-place playoff between defending champions -Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines remained unresolved due to rain, echoing the final’s fate.

Beyond the trophies, the WINLOTT U-15 Super 50 showcased the burgeoning cricketing talent in the Windwards Islands. The young players’ passion and skill promises a bright future for the sport in the region.

“This tournament has been a platform for these talented youngsters,” said Windwards Islands Cricket Board president Dr. Kishore Shallow. “We’ve witnessed exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and dedication. Dominica’s victory reflects their hard work, and it’s encouraging to see such bright prospects emerge.”

While rain may have dampened the final showdown, Dominica’s U-15 triumph in the WINLOTT tournament shines as a story of resilience, teamwork, and unwavering love for the game.

Their consistent brilliance throughout the competition ensured they were rightly crowned champions of the Windwards, even in the face of weather-induced anticlimax.
