Team Saint Lucia Hosts Cuba in Concacaf Women Gold Cup on Friday

Saint Lucia’s Senior National Women’s team plays its first game in the Concacaf Women Gold Cup, against Cuba, on Friday (September, 23) at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground [DSCG] from 6.00 pm.

A spokesperson for the Saint Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. stated that the SLFA is in the process of transitioning its local youth players to the senior international level, and as a result, the nucleus of the team features several  young and experienced players. Some of these young players have represented Saint Lucia at U15, U17 and U20, and most of them will be playing at senior level for the first time.

Team Saint Lucia will consist of a group of young talented players and a few overseas-based professionals who have been added to strengthen the core of the squad.

Besides this, two UK based players who qualify to represent Saint Lucia through heritage have been recruited and will be making their debut national representation.

Also recruited for her first international call up is a US based midfielder of Saint Lucian parentage who plays in the semi-professional league.

Additionally, a few players currently on scholarship in both the USA and Canada are also included in the 18 woman’s squad.

During the upcoming days, the SLFA Inc. will present the full team and technical staff to the media.

Currently the team is in camp and continues its vigorous preparation for the tournament.
