CFU Girls U-14 Challenge Series Set for August

THE Caribbean Football Union [CFU] has released the match schedule for the 2023 Girls’ Under 14 Challenge Series, which is scheduled for Antigua & Barbuda from August 18 to 27. 

This year, a total of 20 teams will participate in the highly anticipated tournament in the land of three hundred and sixty-five (365) beaches. The format for the tournament, consists of 20 teams divided into two tiers (Tier I & II); with 14 national teams from around the Caribbean competing in Tier II while six teams will do battle in Tier I for the coveted Challenge Series trophy.

Saint Lucia will compete in Tier 2, Group C alongside Curacao, Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Saint Lucia’s opening game is against St. Kitts and Nevis.

In other updates, matches scheduled in the SLFA Inc. Div. I and Div. II football competition, for Tuesday (June. 27) at the Dennery and Micoud playing field respectively were postponed.

Meanwhile, the Babonneau Football League in conjunction with the SLFA Inc. have organised an ongoing Under-15 football coaching programme for boys and girls at the Fond Assau Playing Field.

The sessions, being conducted by. Terrance Caroo with assistance from Lynch Isidore, and Francisco James are scheduled to be held, every Saturday morning from 9.00 am – 12.00 noon.

According to the organisers, the programme has attracted more than 25 youngsters from various schools and clubs in the community.

In addition, the Technical team has used a holistic approach in developing the programme that focuses on the following areas:

– Enhance the quality of football in the community.

– Build and develop Positive Character through football.

– Foster Camaraderie among the players and

– Forging and amalgamating physical education and educational achievement.

The programme is supervised by the President of the Babonneau Football League (BFL), Baron Deterville.

In the meantime, a keen challenge is ongoing in the Gros Islet Football League / Monchy United Carasco Under -13 football competition, at the Gros Islet playing field.

Results of matches played, so far, are as follows:

Sunday (June 25) – CT Foundation defeated GMC 8 – 1. Goal scorers were Ethan Laurant 3, Keyshawn Lammy 2 and one each from Vjay Edwin, Delvin Charles and Mikel Justin.

GMC beat Pioneers 5-0; Monchy FC got the better of New Generation 8 – 0 and NYAH FC edged out Pioneers 3 – 2.
