ANN Marie Mathurin is the latest centenarian to grace a Saint Lucian community—stating that lots of prayer and worship has endeared her to a long life.
On Thursday (June 8) the Castries Community celebrated with Mathurin and her family and friends at the Bay Gardens Hotel.
The mother of two boys and two girls, along with eight grandchildren and six great grands was in a festive mood as she danced joyfully with her children. Communications Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister Rehani Isidore was in the company of family members to help celebrate his grandmother’s 100th birthday.
During a brief interview with Andrea Alcide, Family Case worker for older persons within the Department of Human Services and in response to a question on what is the secret to her long life, Mathurin replied: “Well it’s Prayer, Prayer, Prayer and eating all what God gave to me”.
Referring to the unprecedented levels of criminal behaviour among young persons in the community, she let out some sound advice to young mothers, stating:
“Mothers send your children to school, if not we will continue to see what’s happening now.”
