The Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia-Cuba) and the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba will be hosting a two-member delegation from the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Ms. Lilia Maria Zamora Rodriguez, ICAP’s Director for the Eastern Caribbean and Latin America and Ms. Tamara Armenteros Alcee, from Friday, March 31 to Monday, April 3, 2023.
The visit forms part of a series to Cuba Friendship Associations across the Caribbean region.
The Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP), founded in 1960, is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established soon after the early successes of the Cuban Revolution.
Since its founding, ICAP has coordinated work brigades comprised of volunteers from around the globe who are eager to learn about the Cuban reality and show solidarity with the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution by engaging in light agricultural work and cultural activities.
The work brigades give visitors the opportunity to also interact with ordinary Cubans such as farmers and other workers.
ICAP also arranges visits for delegates of international solidarity groups wishing to visit the island to express support for the Cuban cause, demonstrate their opposition to the US imposed economic, commercial and financial blockade, and learn about the aims and successes of the Cuban Revolution.
The delegation will meet the Ambassador and staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Saint Lucia and members of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Castries and in the south, as well as HSA Members and its Executive Committee, to review and plan activities and familiarise the Association with the objectives and plans of ICAP.
They will also meet Government officials and representatives of other organizations, including Cuban Graduates and Women’s Groups in Castries and in the south.
As part of the programme of activities, the HSA and the Embassy will also host a Welcome Reception for the visiting ICAP officials on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 6:00 pm, at the Finance Administrative Centre’s Conference Room, Point Seraphine, Castries.
This will be followed by a round-the-island tour on Sunday, April 2.
The Delegation will depart Saint Lucia on Monday, April 3, 2023 for Antigua & Barbuda.
