It has been a little over three months since hotel employee Omar Defreitas was reported missing, after attending a social function at the Sandals Golf and Country Club, at Cap Estate.
And now, police investigators have revealed the discovery of Defreitas vehicle and most interestingly, according to the cops they also found what may appear to be ‘apparent human remains’ in the vehicle.
On January 6 it was reported that Defreitas and his vehicle disappeared after he left a staff party at the Sandals Golf and Country Club.
Upwards to press time, yesterday, investigators were still at the scene of the crime where the vehicle was found partially submerged in a pond about 300 yards away from the Club.
Defreitas was last seen leaving his staff party at the Sandals Golf and Country Club at Cap Estate in January before he and his vehicle, a Grey Nissan Sylphy sedan, registration number PL2025 went missing.
Three months later, after several intense searches in the Cap Estate area, a golfer noticed the vehicle in a pond on the golf course while playing, on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ronald Phillip told reporters that due to this sudden twist in the investigations, the case is now being investigated as a homicide incident.
“The discovery was made about 7 am today (Yesterday), the scene is currently being processed because we were able to confirm the number as that of the missing vehicle from January 6; we are treating it as a homicide,” DCP Philip explained.
Philip also noted that it was difficult for investigators to be certain of the contents in the vehicle, as it remains submerged in the pond.
“We are awaiting the necessary equipment so we can remove it from the water and do a thorough examination of that vehicle,” said the DPC. He added that there is a possibility that Defreitas could be in the submerged car.
No further details have been provided on this matter.
