Team Saint Lucia gets Mixed Results from Grenada Tour

Team Saint Lucia has had mixed results from their three friendly match tour of Grenada.

In the opening game of the Gleneig Spring Water International Friendly, at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium, last Friday, Saint Lucia’s Senior National Men Football team beat Grenada 2 – 1.

Team 758 held a commanding 2-nil lead at the interval through goal scorers Andrus Remy and debutant Saviola Elva.

Grenada pulled one back in the latter session with Shermine Williams converting in the 88th min.

However, in the second match at the Cuthbert Peters Park in Gouyave, Sunday , the tables turned in favour of the hosts, as the Spice Boys got past Team Saint Lucia 2-nil; with goals from Kimron Marshall (5th min) and Kriston Julien (68th min).

Saint Lucia were due to take on La Horquetta Rangers FC from Trinidad and Tobago, in the final match, last night.

Meanwhile, matches continued last weekend in the SLFA Inc. Zonal Club Boys Youth competition, at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery.

New Generation defeated Piton Travel Young Stars 2 – 0, with Shevon Byron scoring a brace with goals in the 44th and 69th minutes.

Pioneers FC defeated RV Juniors 8 – 3, with a rampaging victory. For Pioneers, goal scorers were Michael Miller in the 11th, 14th, 39th and 79th minutes, Shionne Mederick 23rd and 24th, Juabari Charles 7th and Gisroy Janvier in the 38th minutes.

Scoring for RV Juniors were Neshawn Polius 55th, D’ Shawn Polius 70th and Omari Joseph 74th minutes.

On Sunday, two matches were completed in the SLFA Senior Women Competition at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.

Soufriere defeated Central Castries 5 – 1; with a hat-trick from Shermalyn Albert in the 30th, 38th and 69th minutes, Nicotia Joseph 14th and Sasha Nicholas 52nd minutes.

Faith Rogers scored a consolation goal for Central Castries in the 60th minute.

Canaries beat Vieux Fort South 2 – 0, with a brace from Khylah Solomon in the 19th and 48th minutes.

In further updates, the La Clery Football League kicked off its Under-15 Youth Boys competition last Saturday (March, 4) at the La Clery Playing Field.

There are four teams currently participating in the competition, namely Agardianz, LA All Stars, Radics and a Mixed Team.

According  to a tournament organizer, the mixed team consists of players from the three clubs put together in order to afford them the opportunity to hone their football skills. Females are allowed to participate in the tournament with games being played over 40 minutes with two 20 minutes halves.

Matches will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4.00 pm and on Saturdays from 10.30 am.

Radics were due to play against LA All Stars yesterday, while Thursday’s matchup will see Radics vs. Agardianz.
