Nick and Karolin Troubetzkoy of Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain Resorts, will be honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) on May 22, 2023, hosted at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel in Florida. This prominent award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the hospitality industry over their lifetime through their actions, deeds, and great accomplishments.

“The influence that Nick and Karolin have had at the local and national levels as well as throughout the Caribbean is unmistakable as their devotion to doing the right thing for humanity, the environment, and the hospitality industry in general is on display every day and runs deep throughout their entire operation,” said Jeff Higley, President, The BHN Group. “It is with great pleasure that all of us at The BHN Group and Northstar Travel Group will present this award to the Troubetzkoys as their commitment to their beliefs is something we can call learn from.”

St. Lucian hotelier, developer and visionary Nick Troubetzkoy is a Russian-Canadian born architect from the west coast of Canada, where he attended the University of British Columbia and worked with legendary Canadian architects Ron Thom, Bud Wood and Arthur Erickson. Mr. Troubetzkoy came to St. Lucia in the 1970s to work with architects designing vacation villas. What was meant to be a brief stint in paradise turned into a lifelong passion for the island and its people.

Conserving the natural environment, celebrating all things local, and being socially responsible have been central elements of Mr. Troubetzkoy’s philosophy. With these in mind, he helped create the Soufrière Community Foundation and the Soufrière Marine Management Authority. Mr. Troubetzkoy has kept this community-centric philosophy top of mind, recognizing the role the community plays in the success of his hotels, Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain.

The sister resorts are the crowning achievements of his life’s work. In Anse Chastanet, he created a welcoming hotel that’s anchored in the community of Soufrière. In Jade Mountain, he designed a cornucopia of organic architecture using the rich palette of indigenous materials that were lying on his doorstep. Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain complement each other, providing unique vacation experiences while maintaining the indispensable philosophy of being one with nature.

She was an early advocate for sustainable operations, community engagement and environmental awareness, a passion shared by her husband. In addition to playing an active role at the resorts, Mrs. Troubetzkoy has committed her time and expertise to numerous volunteer leadership roles in St. Lucia and the wider Caribbean.

From 2010-2016 and 2018-2020, she served as President of the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA). She held the post of president of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) from 2016-2018. In 2018, Mrs. Troubetzkoy was appointed Chair of the CHTA Education Foundation. In July 2020, she accepted the Chairmanship of the Saint Lucia National Conservation Fund and in 2022, was elected Chairperson of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund.
