Flow Lancers emerged winners of the coveted Veterans in Sports Inc. Championship Title, with a clinical performance to get past Gros Islet in the finals played at the Dennery playing field, last Saturday. And in the process, their players dominated the prizes awards at the post-match presentation.
Lancers beat Gros Islet 2-1 to lay hold of the trophy and the monetary prize.
Wendell Prescott put the city-based team in the first half, and into the second session Cassius Springer doubled up the score to give Lancers a 2-0 lead.
Gros Islet fought back to get into contention with a goal scored by Troy Serieux in the latter minutes , but Lancers held on firmly to the advantage to secure that victory.
This was Lancers first hold of the Veterans Championship Title and club members were pleased that the toils of their labour finally paid off. Having lost the 2019 finals, the players rallied to the cause to place their team in the title winners’ rankings.
“We have been yearning for the championship title for a long time now, and we finally got a grasp on it,” declared Vilan Edward, Lancers’ long-serving custodian, who was also rewarded with a top player prize.
At the post-match awards presentation, the following prizes were awarded:
– Best Goal Keeper – Vilan Edward (Lancers)
– MVP Finals – Trevor Daniel (Lancers)
– MVP Tournament – Trevor Daniel (Lancers)
– Best Defender – Vibert Sonson (Lancers)
