As part of the celebrations for this year’s Nobel Laureate Festival, the Central Library released a publication entitled LiteFest, which featured local artistes, as well as small businesses.
The new activity was launched towards harnessing local talent in the area of writing, poetry and the performing arts.
LiteFest, a literary festival, was held in commemoration of Nobel Laureate week.
Poetry, song, drama, the spoken word and dub poetry were among the areas of the arts showcased at the inaugural event, which organizers say is a spin-off of the Central Library’s lunchtime poetry sessions.
Director of Library Services, Sally Rosemond, is heartened by the response to the event. She said the activity will be held annually to celebrate the arts and the achievements of the island’s two Nobel Laureates.
“This activity concentrates on highlighting the talents that exist amongst us through song, poetry recital and the creative and performing arts,” she said.
Local entrepreneurs invited to lunchtime activity are all artistes in their own right. Member of the LitFest Organsing Committee, Gyanchand Rayman, said showcasing the products at the event as a side attraction, helps promote the items and gives small businesses some much-needed exposure.
“It lends to the ambiance of the whole affair,” he said. “It is natural for people who come in for the entertainment to view and buy what is on display. So, the fusion of the two is awesome.”
The Literary Festival known as LiteFEST was held as part of Nobel Laureate Week 2023, observed under the theme “Celebrating Excellence: Consolidating Our Legacy.”
