National Soccer Teams Prepare for Major Upcoming Matches

With the island looking to boost its soccer ratings – the Saint Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc., currently has two national teams in training for some major regional matches.

The Senior Men’s National Team is undergoing training for participation in the Return Leg of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Saint Lucia is scheduled to play Anguilla on March 24 in Anguilla; and will host Dominica on March 27.

The team trains on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 4.00 – 6.00 pm at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery.

In addition, the National Under-20 Women’s team is currently preparing to participate in the CONCACAF Women Under-20 tournament scheduled for April 14 to 24.

The 23- member team trains on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4.00 – 6.00 pm and Saturday 10.00 am – 3.00 pm at the Technical Centre.

Meanwhile, the SLFA Inc. held a planning meeting with its coaches and support technical unit attached to the national teams as it seeks to chart the way forward for more viable productivity.

The meeting centered on the SLFA’s Inc. National Teams Programme for 2023, and additionally team selection process and game module.

Some of the items discussed included the following: National Teams Technical Staff – Head Coach, Asst. Coach, and Physical Fitness Coach assigned, Goal Keeping Coach and Medic assigned, Team Selection Process, Overseas based players, and Training sessions schedule and content.

In other updates, following three rounds of competition in the SLFA’s Inc. Senior Women’s Competition the points standing are as follows:

National Under 20 – 9 pts.

Soufriere – 9 pts.

Canaries – 6 pts.

Vieux Fort South – 6 pts.

Anse La Raye – 3 pts.

Central Castries, Dennery and Desruisseaux have not registered any wins so far.

The leading goal scorers are Arnicka Louis of the National Under-20 with 17, followed by Chermalyn Albert of Soufriere 8, Kylah Solomon Canaries 7 and Cassandra and Freegeane Joseph National Under-20 with 6.
