SLFA Div. I and II Club Championships set for June

With this summer’s sports activities heating up – the St Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. has announced that the 2022 Div. I and II Club Championships are expected to start in June.

An SLFA official stated that in this regard, the SLFA held its 1st Technical Meeting for the 2022 –Div. I and II Club Championships. That meeting took place on Thursday May 12.  Participating Clubs’ representatives were briefed as discussions focused on the championships and provided clarifications.

The SLFA stated that the circulated Consent Forms were due to be returned to the SLFA’s headquarters no later than May, 11.

Meanwhile, the SLFA disclosed that the 2021 Under-17 Boys Club Championship which was paused as a result of the COVID 19 Pandemic has been faced with challenges. An attempted start to competition recently did not materialise.

At this time, the championship has in excess of 90 matches left to complete the fixtures. “The number of matches dictates that one does their utmost to get these completed so that we can start the 2022 version of the championship. As such, we looked at the possibility of the last fixture which was disseminated recently,” an SLFA official explained.

“We have had to rethink this fixture as it will disadvantage some clubs and players if it is implemented. It has therefore become necessary for us to consider the way forward for this championship,” the official added.

Due to the limited time that is currently available at this particular period of the year, the FA said they had to consider the abandonment of the 2021 Under-17 Boys Club Championship in its entirety and consider planning to possibly host the 2022 version of this championship in the coming months.
