With nothing concrete coming out of ongoing talks so far between the Ministry responsible for transportation and the National Council on Public Transportation (NCOPT), bus drivers have been warned against increasing their fares.
At the same time, President of the NCOPT Godfrey Ferdinand, has reminded the public that no official pronouncement has been made regarding a hike in bus fares even though there is a strong possibility that an increase might very well be agreed on in the near future.
Government to date has not said anything about a hike in bus fares, something bus drivers, backed by the NCOPT have been calling for over the past several weeks claiming that over the past two years they have not been making the amount they usually make thanks to COVID-19 by having to transport fewer passengers, increases in fuel prices and the cost of living.
There is an expectation that an increase may be forth coming next month, however nothing has been said to concretise that expectation.
Bus drivers and the NCOPT are expecting an announcement by government soon on their request for a hike in bus fares.
