Officials from the Royal Canadian Ex- Service League and the Saint Lucia Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Service League this month laid wreaths at the Cenotaph on Derek Walcott Square in remembrance of the fallen soldiers of the two world wars.
In attendance for the first time, newly appointed Mayor of Castries Geraldine Lendor –Gabriel, British High Commissioner Leslie Saunderson, Mary Bruce chairperson of the poppy appeal, Canadian National Executive Director Steven Clark and the Legion Dominion president Bruce Julian.
“It is great to be here to stand with our comrades in arms, and share our memories and beliefs. We should never forget the sacrifices that were made on our behalf. It’s a great pleasure for us from the royal Canadian Legion, to help support those memories, help supports our comrades in the Caribbean,’ Julian said.
“As long as I am Dominion president, we will continue to do just that support you to the best of our abilities,” he added.
Vice president of the Saint Lucia Legion, Raginal Cherebin responded, saying “We looking forward to that”.
The group went on to visit the war cemetery at Choc Bay and paid a courtesy call on the 100-year-old president of the local legion, Haynes Cyril at his home.
