Following a short but intense Promotional League which saw NYAH FC emerge as champions, the Castries Football Council (CFC) will kick off its 2022 Super League today, Saturday April 2nd at the SAB playing facility. The Super League which is the marquee senior tournament for the CFC continues tomorrow and it will involve all five of the affiliates, namely; VSADC, NYAH FC, FC Pioneers, Flow Lancers and Valley Soccer Club.
The CFC Super League was abandoned in 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and there was no tournament in 2021 due to the pandemic imposed restrictions on contact sports. The teams are therefore anxious and ready for action after a prolonged period of inactivity.
VSADC, the defending champions, will open the defence of their title against the last team to beat them to the CFC crown, Flow Lancers FC, from 4:00 pm. This promises to be an exciting clash because both teams will be strengthened by the inclusion of national U20 players who for the past four years were not permitted to represent their clubs in league and national club competitions.
For VSADC, U20 players Jamal Wilfred and Rashad Eugene are expected to add speed and attacking verve while Flow Lancers FC will be bolstered by inclusion of national U20 midfielder Jared Desir along with defenders Dante Fitz and Sherqwayne Prudent.
Sunday’s match will feature NYAH FC and FC Pioneers. While NYAH FC got pass FC Pioneers by 2-0 in the Promotional League, FC Pioneers are hoping that the addition of national U20 captain Sherquan Nelson and national U20 midfielder Ajani Hippolyte will bring about a reversal of fortunes in the rematch.
