Naomi London and Lenyn Leonce were amongst the top competitors at last weekend’s Independence Games, which was held on Sunday, February 27 at the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Fort.
Local athletes from various clubs on the island participated in a total of about 24 events.
In addition, the meet also allowed for three athletes to qualify for the CARIFTA Games, due to be held this weekend.
Jeremiah Felix and Rashid James both qualified in the Boys Pole Vault Open event and Naomi London qualified for the 100m Girls U17 Category. Notably, London’s time also qualifies her for the World Junior Championships.
The next meet on schedule is the National Junior Championships, slated from March 19-20th; and it will be the final event for athletes to meet the CARIFTA Games qualifying marks.
