13 in Preparation for Nation League Tourney

A group of 13 local players has been selected to undergo training in preparation for the upcoming Nation League tournament, which is due to commence this June, the same month the group phase of the tournament will commence.

The St. Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc. has organized training sessions for the Senior National Men’s team to take place at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere. According to an SLFA official, the squad is due to train thrice weekly; on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

The home-based players selected are as follows ; Tev Lawrence, Cassius Joseph, Jamie Prospere, Antonio Joseph, Eden Charles, Ed Fred, Otev Lawrence, Gregson President, Kurt Fredrick, Andrus Remy, Lester Joseph, Daren Donid, Nicholas Tonelle, and Shawn Evans.

Meanwhile, four other national teams are in training, at the Technical Centre, namely –  Boys U 15 / U 17 – Monday and Wednesday; Girls U 15 – Tuesday and Thursday and; Men U 20 – Fridays.

Each team has approximately 36 sessions in which to prepare the respective teams physically and tactically. The SLFA official added that the weekly sessions can be increased as it gets closer to the tournament date and coaches see the need to increase the sessions.

In other football updates, three matches were played in the SLFA.s Inc. Island Super Cup on Monday evening.

At the Dennery Playing field, Anse La Raye got the better of Laborie 2 – 1 after being down 1 – 0.

Though Laborie took the lead through an own goal from Samuel Cadette in the 32nd minute; Anse La Raye fought back with goals from Mc Arthur Louise in the 28th min from the penalty spot and Sagat Ferdinand in the 30th min.

In the second game played, despite taking an early 1 – 0 lead in the 22nd min. via the boots of Levi Altidore, Micoud had no answer to the rampant La Clery team who went on to dominate the encounter 4 – 1.

La Clery’s goal scorers included braces from Jonathan Allen 55th and 75th min, and Andrus Remy, in the 69th min and the 2nd min. of added-on time.

At the Phillip Marcellin Grounds, the first game between Vieux Fort North and Mon Repos didn’t materialize as Mon Repos withdrew from the tournament.

In the second scheduled game, Choiseul with goals from Darell Francis in the 8th and 40th min and Akid Edmund in the 74th min downed South Castries 3 – 2. For South Castries, the goals came from Chad Alfred in the 2nd min and Kaylan Harry with a penalty in the 46th min.

Matches continued in the Island Premier Cup on Tuesday (March, 8), at the Dennery Playing Field; Marchand vs. Desruisseaux, and Central Castries vs. the Canaries.
