With Saint Lucia due to host the inaugural Free Kick Foundation Youth Cup, this summer, amongst other events on the sports and entertainment calendar – industry personnel is touting a rebound for sports tourism on the island.
A number of sporting events with a global appeal are due to be held here, this year, including sailing events such as the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) and its added components. Hospitality industry stakeholders are hoping to cash in on the services and accommodation, social interaction and entertainment provided to the visitors.
Speaking to a global media audience, recently, Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire feels that sports tourism is returning to the destination.
He noted that in June, “we will welcome back the International Masters Football Invitational Tournament with over 20 teams from Canada, US, and the Caribbean.”
