Central Boguis Decorated for Independence Day

Celebrations for St. Lucia’s 43rd Independence Day anniversary were low keyed, although many Saint Lucians celebrated their independence with culturally vibrant local music.

While the street jump-ups, round the island excursions, family get together, beach limes etc., were not present this time around, a point recognised by Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, who apologised for the way things turned out this year. He promised this would not be the case come the 44th Independence Day anniversary next year.

However, Pierre reminded that while more will be done come next year, it all depends on the status of the coronavirus pandemic in country, which was the cause of this year’s low keyed celebrations.

The pandemic, however, could not prevent members of the Boguis Development Committee and other personnel from the community to beautify Central Boguis for Independence Day.

“Beautification is a key aspect of community development, and it surely brought our people together. Our projects entailed picking up trash, planting of colourful flowers and shrubs, painting poles, tires, and walls in our independence colours.  We also managed to move the pitons to Boguis and we had fun doing it all,” said Patricia Chastanet, Chairperson community’s development committee.
