A power outage was caused by a crane that toppled over on LUCELEC infrastructure in the vicinity of the bridge leading to Manoel Street. The accident damaged several poles, electricity lines and transformers in the area. The resulting outage affected customers on Manoel Street, La Toc, Hospital Road, Tapion, Banane, Lower Morne Road, Faux A Chaux, top of Bridge and Brazil Streets, the Ferrands-Mayfield area and a section of Laborie Street.
After the faulted zone was isolated the process of restoring the power to some of the affected customers was initiated. Power was restored at 3:41 p.m. to Banane, Faux A Chaux, La Toc and Tapion, followed by Ferrands-Mayfield and the section of Laborie Street at 3:48 p.m. LUCELEC crews also quickly cleared the area of all fallen infrastructure to allow emergency and other personnel to work on removing the fallen crane.
St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) crews and contractors worked throughout the night to rebuild the damaged section of the electricity infrastructure in the area to have service restored to all areas at 6:24 on Monday morning.
LUCELEC apologises to its customers for the inconvenience caused by the emergency outage and thanks them for their patience while we worked to restore power to all affected customers.
