UNICOMER (Saint Lucia) Limited yesterday noted the closure of its in-store retail operations in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which includes Courts, Ready Cash, RadioShack & Servitech as of Friday, April 9th, 2021 until further notice. The closure was in response to the Le Soufriere volcanic activity on the island.
Unicomer, OECS, Managing Director, Mr. Vincent Gordon shared, “We have been closely monitoring the activity on the island. As the situation escalated, our immediate priority was the safety of our teams. Once we were notified of the deteriorating conditions, our disaster response committee on island acted quickly to minimize their exposure. We are pleased to report that we are in direct communication with every member of staff, and that our staff is safe.”
Mr. Gordon also noted that while care packages have been delivered to the local team, it will be just a stop-gap measure. “We are especially concerned about our team’s access to potable water and respiratory protection at this time. To this end, we are arranging a larger scale intervention for our valued staff, whose courage has been tested in so many ways this year,” he continued.
Recognizing that there will also be a need for greater engagement by corporate partners to sustain the local community, Mr. Gordon advised that Unicomer is determining the most effective way to support the National Emergency Management Organization or other credible charities. “We stand willing and ready to assist the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” remarked Mr. Gordon.
Regarding the reopening of its in-store retail activity in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Mr. Gordon expressed that they will be guided by the relevant authorities. In the interim, customers may access all Courts products and services via the Shopcourts.com website, to include purchases and payments.
