Teachers Benefit from Training in Development of Open Educational Resources

The Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) has concluded a three-week blended short-course for teachers in the development of Open Educational Resources (OER). The course also focused on the use of the Moodle Learning Management

Teachers in Class session

Two groups of over twenty secondary school teachers participated in the OER capacity development activity which was led by SALCC facilitators. Teachers learned to use a variety of technological tools that give them the means to create and manage a dynamic range of engaging learning materials. This activity represents an important and significant accomplishment for SALCC, as the institution continues to expand its programming to provide teachers access to training programs that are increasingly relevant in the age of technology-enabled learning.

SALCC’s E-Learning Academy is a welcomed addition to its offerings for teachers and educators as the Ministry continues to support the professional development of teachers.

Many of the teachers who participated in this course will be engaged over the next two months in the development of digital textbook resources for the CSEC POA, POB, EDPM and IT courses.

The team of facilitators included Royston Emmanuel, eLearning Specialist and Ted Sandiford, Graphic Animation Specialist at SALCC. This workshop was realised with the moral support of Dr. Sanjaya Mishra, Education Specialist: eLearning, COL.
