The island continues to grapple with COVID-19 and has today, Friday, April 16, 2021, the Ministry of recorded nine (9) new cases of COVID-19. This is from a total of 176 samples taken on April 14, 2021 and April 15, 2021 which were processed on April 15, 2021.
These individuals were seen at various community respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In-keeping with the national COVID-19 testing protocol, healthcare practitioners placed each one of these individuals in-home quarantine while awaiting the return of their test results.
Arrangements have since been made to place these newly diagnosed individuals in isolation. The contact tracing for these new cases is underway.
Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 7 individuals bringing the total number of active cases in country to date to 93. Presently, one of the active cases requires critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 4398.
The Ministry of Health also reports one COVID-19 related death bringing the total number of deaths in country to date to 65. Death #65 is a 76-year-old male from the Gros- Islet district with no known underlying medical illnesses.
