SLMDA Calls For Two Week Shutdown amid record COVID Spike

Given the unprecedented surge in cases of COVID-19 on island with over five hundred (500) cases being diagnosed during this month, the general membership of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association, coming out of an emergency meeting held today January 28, 2021, agreed to the following recommendations in order to mitigate the effect of the disease and avoid further overwhelming of our already fragile healthcare system:

  • A judicious shut down of all, but essential services for a period of two weeks in the first instance.
  • Implementation of a curfew between the hours of 6:00 pm and 6:00 am
  • Immediate ramping up of testing, including the use of rapid testing.

Thirteen Saint Lucian lives have been lost since the start of this pandemic. Any life lost prematurely is one too many. We are cognizant of the need to balance lives and livelihood. Livelihood and the economy can be revived, not so lives lost.

We will continue to valiantly battle on the front line ensuring that our fellow citizens receive the absolute best care possible. Our system however, has surpassed its limit.

We need to restrategize, regroup, reset. We cannot afford to wait. The time to act is now!

Fellow citizens this is not a call to panic, it is a call to unite for our very survival. Together we can indeed win this war.

  1. no information to the public :

how we doing (in %) in comparison to our neighboring islands, who have open borders to tourism ?

  2. WOW – what a stunning photo; writing with left hand, or as they say being
‘left handed’ is more common than most think. Please St.Lucia, keep doing a good job
you’re not just in ‘good hands’ but are blessed at a time such as this. with some of the
best qualified medical Practitioners St.Lucia have ever imagined. With the News of this
killer escalating at a rapid rate globally, and though we’ve tried and are still trying our best,
we must not let our Gard down. Above everything else remember, Give thanks to the Lord.

  3. This is it, methinks; Martinique political system with France is that they
are regarded as just another Province of France (am I correct?) they can come
    and go as they please(right?) – they are in effect, too damn close geographically;
for the reasons we are faced with, with this Pandemic; we both sisters love each
other and joined at the Navel, but cut apart by different fathers, and no matter how
the waring factions bitched and banged with loud Canons we the Creole people,
will always love each other. Act 1, enters Covid, so we should all say emphatically
with a loud voice “Covid you are not welcomed here, we command you to go, leave now.”
