Students Benefit from SRDF Scholarship & Bursary Programme

LAST Friday, 30th August, 2019 the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) held a closing ceremony for its annual scholarship and bursary programme.

Every year, the SRDF awards book bursaries and scholarships to successful and suitably qualified applicants from the Soufriere region. This year, the organisation bestowed book bursaries and scholarships to 376 students. Of this number, 334 were book bursaries, with the difference being scholarship awardees.

The south-western establishment also recognised the top performers in district 8 for the 2019 Common Entrance Examinations (GianVitte) and 2019 CXC Examinations (Shalom Caleb Mukete).

This initiative is geared towards relieving the financial burden on parents who would have otherwise found it very difficult to satisfy the educational requirements of their children. It also serves as a platform to help recognise those who perform exceptionally well in their academic pursuits.

Community Development Officer Johnson Simon remarked that he was extremely elated that the SRDF had once again placed emphasis on satisfying its mandate. “Working with this community in such a critical aspect gives me immense pleasure,” he said, adding that the organisation is working tirelessly to enhance the programme each year.

Franklin Solomon, General Manager of the SRDF remarked that “foremost on the agenda of the S.DF is the complete development of the human resource within the Soufriere region. It is for this reason that the organisation devotes a substantial amount of its resources towards this programme each year. I am once again overjoyed at the outcome this year and wish every student a successful school year.”

The Soufriere Foundation is a non-profit company located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, cultural, human resource, tourism and infrastructure development in the Soufriere area. The organisation which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Center, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.
