ANOTHER Saint Lucia athlete is making a name for herself; 9-year-old Fayth Jeffery who is now an active triathlete. Reports reaching the VOICE just before going to press yesterday from Barbados were that Fayth participated in the Barbados Federation of Triathletes monthly PINEHILL Juice Kids Triathlon race series on Sunday.

Fayth is currently living in Barbados with her parents, and during the recent event she was good enough to give the boys a run for their money, though she slipped off the bike and in the process lost some momentum. As the exciting race progressed, the boys in front of her kept looking back to see how far she was, but at the end of it all the silver medalist at the Goodwill Games in Suriname finished ahead of the boys in the swimming segment.

According to the source, this event provides opportunities for children to learn about triathlon and apply their skills in groups determined by their age. Kids complete age appropriate distances of swimming, biking and running.

Fayth’s first triathlon was in February 2018, participating in the 9-10 age group consisting of a 100 metres swim, 3km ride and 750m run. Fayth was awarded the 2018 top 9-10 Female BFIT Kits Triathlete.

Fayth continues to enjoy the monthly event despite not putting in any specific fitness or training for the cycle and running events of the Triathlon.

It was only last month; Fayth didn’t disappoint the swimming fraternity as she was Saint Lucia lone swimmer at the Goodwill Swim Championship. She stepped right up and achieved personal best times in the majority of her events.

In the 9-10 girls she won silver in the 100M Breast. Fayth also achieved decreased her time over 4 seconds in the 9-10 Girls Age Group.

Her overall performance placed her 5th in the 9-10 Girls Age Group and 1st overall for Girls aged 9. She achieved AAA and AA times in most of her events.

Meanwhile, the Barbados National Triathlon will be held on Saturday 13th October 2019 at Brandon’s Beach, Spring Garden Highway and one thing’s for certain, Fayth will be in the thick of things.
