Meeting Between NWU And SLASPA Averts Protest Action

A MEETING between the Management of the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) led by Grace Parkinson and the leadership and the Shop Stewards of the National Workers Union (NWU) averted any form of prolonged protest action by employees of SLASPA in Castries and Vieux Fort.

The parties met at the SLASPA Conference Room on September 3rd, 2019. The NWU presented a lengthy list of unresolved industrial matters, but suggested a resolution of five matters could bring along an interim settlement of the industrial impasse. The following were agreed:

ā€¢ SLASPA would provide security protection to Lighthouse Keepers at Vigie and Vieux Fort
ā€¢ An Ex Gratia Payment of a reasonable amount would be paid out to the family of the deceased former SLASPA employee Leonard Daniel
ā€¢ Decisions taken pertaining to Sylvie Joseph and Sherlan Jn. Baptiste will be reviewed
ā€¢ Removal of container on the docks

Going forward the Company and the Union will continue industrial conversations that will subsequently address and resolve all outstanding matters of an industrial relations nature.
