THE Saint Lucia National Youth Council has begun preparations for the observance of Youth Month in April, and among the activities being planned is the Caribbean Youth Conference (Saint Lucia). The Caribbean Youth Conference was developed to provide a platform for youth from all backgrounds, and across all areas of interests, to meet and discuss the multitude of issues affecting them, develop sustainable solutions, and converse with the state’s governance to ensure that possible solutions receive a platform.
The theme for the Conference ‘Promoting a Sustainable and Innovative Caribbean; Through Youth Participation, Passion and Creativity’, seeks to engage young people in creating a plan of action where we can merge our advocacy with proper plans and implementations.
Organizers of the event hope to engage about 180 youth leaders from across Saint Lucia and the Caribbean from April 29th to May 1st, 2019. The Conference will be held at the Golden Palm Event Center in Rodney Bay.
Into its second year, Conference Committee Chairperson Nyus Alfred expects an even better event this time around.
‘’We had an excellent event last year, which provided our local youth leaders an invaluable opportunity to network with regional youth leaders, and explore possible areas for collaboration,” Alfred said. “The conference was designed, more than anything else, to provide young people the rare opportunity to dialogue directly with decision makers. We have added some exciting components this year, including a community outreach aspect. We are glad to announce that we have partnered with USAID, through their Community, Family and Youth Resilience Program (CFYR), for that aspect of the conference, as we hope to engage participants at the grassroots levels.’’
The deadline to apply for this year’s conference is March 28th, and persons between the ages of 15 and 35 can apply by visiting the Facebook Page of the Saint Lucia National Youth Conference.
