PRESS RELEASE – As an initiative to reduce the incidence of Domestic Violence in Saint Lucia, Club Gar, the Gender Relations Department and the Women Support Center are collaborating to host a solution-focused campaign.
The proposed tag line is: “I am Part of The Solution”, urging people to get involved and learn how they too can be part of the solution against domestic violence.
In 2017 Club GAR, its annual “Walk for a Cause” activity raised $70,700.00 for a campaign to “Break the Silence on Domestic Violence” in Saint Lucia.
The partnership with the Gender Relations Department resulted in a rebranding of the campaign.
The 3-tiered campaign will run until March 31, 2019 and it will provide support for survivors of domestic violence and increases programs and avenues available to those at risk to reduce their vulnerability.
In order to bring awareness, the campaign is also reaching out to the island’s children to share their insight on this issue in an essay competition.
The aim of the completion is to make this campaign an inclusive movement where different departments and institutions will be given the opportunity to contribute possible solutions to this problem.
We invited all schools and all its students from Grade 4 to form 5 to participate in the essay competition. There will be 3 prizes awarded to the first, second and third place winners island wide on December 7th.
Primary School Topics are: What makes a happy home? and How could you know if a friend is being hurt?,
Secondary School Topics are: What role can I play in stopping domestic violence? and Are St. Lucians aware of the impact of domestic violence?
The deadline for the receipt of submissions is November 23rd, 2018 and the Prize Giving Ceremony will take place on December 7th, 2018 at a venue to be named.
We urge all Saint Lucians to encourage a child to share their views on the issues of Domestic Violence and share their thoughts on solutions to decrease these cases in our island. (ClubGAR)
