A non-governmental organization has played a key role in ensuring that its workforce is healthy.
On October 31st, Sandals Grande, with the support of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, hosted a grand health fair at their premises.
The health fair was in compliance with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
While the primary focus may have been breast cancer, Sandals Grand Spa & Beach Resort also took an all-round approach to ensure a healthy team.
Venecia Durrant is the Environmental Health & Safety Manager for Sandals Grand spa & Beach Resort
She said, “For the entire month of October, we have been engaging activities just to bring more awareness to the team members. So, we felt like it was important for us to culminate the month with a grand health fair, an opportunity where team members can just come and do their examination for breast cancer awareness.
“We decided to take a holistic approach, whereby, in encouraging persons to take care of themselves we also decided to do various other health checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, etc.
“The nutrition department is with us as well, to give health advice and tips. We have family planning, substance abuse, eye examination, dental examination and even food care.
“All of that encompasses taking care of your body holistically.
“The team members are appreciative because, instead of going out there to do it on their own, there was an opportunity where it was brought to them and they can just take a little time off to do their checks..”
Health Educator and coordinator for the event Nadiege Smith Lambert said that whilst the curtains may have come down on the observed month, the fight against breast cancer and other forms of cancer continues.
She said the Ministry of Health applauds Sandals for their continued support in championing the cause and they look forward to having more Non-Governmental Organizations come on board. (Ministry of Health)
